In Berlin wurde in der vergangenen Woche gefeiert. Mit dabei: Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel, der türkische Regierungschef Recep Tayyip Erdogan und Menschen türkischer Herkunft, die in Deutschland leben. Der Grund war ein besonderer Jahrestag: Vor 50 Jahren unterzeichneten die Türkei und Deutschland einen wichtigen Vertrag. Darin stand, dass viele Türken nach Deutschland kommen konnten, um hier eine Zeitlang zu arbeiten.
Integration bleibt wichtiges Thema
Vieles läuft zwar gut - doch es gibt auch Probleme: Manche Menschen türkischer Herkunft sprechen nur wenig Deutsch und haben fast nur türkische Freunde und Bekannte. Sie fühlen sich immer noch fremd in Deutschland. Manchmal werden sie auch von Deutschen ausgegrenzt.  Politiker und Experten treffen sich deshalb regelmäßig, um zu beraten, wie die Menschen in Deutschland besser zusammenleben können - egal, woher sie kommen.

 
Last week, a lot of people celebrated in Berlin the 50 anniversary of a contract between Germany and Turkey which said that Turkish people were allowed to come to Germany in order to work there for a while. The German chancellor Angela Merkel and the Turkish head of government Recep Tayyip Erdogan also celebrated this anniversary in Berlin.
This contract is very important for the relationship between Germany and Turkey. Currently, more than three million people with a Turkish family background are living in Germany. Although so many Turkish people live there, the topic of integration is still a problem in some areas. A lot of people with Turkish origin do only speak broken German; they have only Turkish friends and still do not feel “at home” in Germany. Therefore, politicians and experts constantly try to find new ways and possibilities how people living in Germany, no matter where they come from, can live together and not side by side.
