Fastnacht, Fasching oder Karneval

All diese Namen bezeichnen das gleiche Ereignis. Sie stehen für die sogenannte fünfte Jahreszeit, die

am 11.11. in allen deutschen Städten am Rhein beginnt.

Zu dieser Zeit ist niemand normal: man verkleidet sich, isst viele Süßigkeiten und trinkt viel Bier. Zur Fastnacht darf sich jeder total verrückt verhalten, denn Fasnacht ist die Zeit der Narren und Gaukler. Die Deutschen sagen hier ihrem sonst so strengen Alltag Lebewohl und leben ihre verrückte Seite aus. 

In Städten wie Köln, Düsseldorf und Mainz wird Fastnacht am größten gefeiert, deshalb nennt man diese Städte auch Karnevalshochburgen. Viele Deutsche kommen von überall her, um in diesen Städten Karneval gemeinsam zu feiern. 

All these names refer to the same event. They all stand for the so called fifth season which begins on 11.11. in all German cities along the Rhine.

At this time, nobody behaves normally: they dress up in costumes, they eat a lot of sweets and they drink a lot of beer. At Fastnacht everybody is allowed to be crazy because Fastnacht is the time of jesters and imposters.

At Fasching, the German people say goodbye to their strict everyday life and live out their crazy way of life.

In cities like Cologne, Düsseldorf and Mainz, you can find the biggest Karneval parties therefore these cities are called the strongholds of Karneval. A lot of Germans from all German cities and regions come to these cities to celebrate Fastnacht together.
