Der deutsche Weihanchtsmarkt / The German Christmas market

 

Endlich ist es wieder soweit: in Deutschland beginnt die Zeit der Weihnachtsmaerkte!

Obwohl der Weihnachtsmarkt eine deutsche Tradition ist, findet man solche Maerkte mittlerweile auch in vielen anderen Laendern, wie zum Beispiel in Frankreich und England.

Die beruehmtesten Weihnachtsmaerkte in Deutschland sind der Koelner Weihnachtsmarkt am historischen Dom und der Nuernberger Christkindlmarkt. Man findet auf den Maerkten viele Staende, die Weihnachtliche Artikel verkaufen, wie zum Beispiel Schmuck fuer den Weihnachtsbaum, Adventskraenze oder sonstige Wheinachtsdekorationen.

Es gibt dort aber auch eine ganze Menge leckerer Sachen zum Essen und zum Trinken. Kinder trinken oft Weihnachtspunsch, Kakao oder heissen Fruechtetee und Erwachsene Gluehwein, Feuerzangenbowle oder Grog. Man findet dort viele deutsche Spezialitaeten wie zum Beispiel Bratwurst, Schnitzel und Plaetzchen aber auch Franzoesiches Essen wie Flammkuchen und Crepe.

Weihnachten ist das Fest der Familie, deshalb nutzen viele deutsche Familien die Weihnachtsmaerkte, um Ausfluege an Sonntagen zu machen. Es lohnt sich auf jedenfall einen solchen Weihnachtsmarkt zu besuchen! Man muss ja nicht gleich nach Deustchland fahren! Bei euch in der Naehe gibt es bestimmt auch einen Weihnachtsmarkt den ihr an einem Sonntag mit eurer Familie oder mit Freunden besuchen koennt!

Although the Christmas market is a German tradition, you can find such markets in many countries nowadays. Especially in France and in England the Christmas market has become very popular.

The most popular German Christmas markets are the one in Cologne and the one in Nuremberg. At the Christmas market you can find many stalls that offer different sorts of Christmas items for example Christmas tree decorations, Advent wreaths or other types of Christmas decorations.

You can find a lot of delicious things to eat and to drink. Children often drink Christmas punch, hot chocolate or tea. Adults normally drink mulled wine, brandy punch or grog. You can also find a lot of German specialities like bratwurst, schnitzel and traditional German Christmas biscuits but also French specialities like tarte flambee and crepes. At Christmas the family is very important therefore a lot of German families visit these markets with their whole family on Sundays. It is definitely worth to visit a Christmas market. You don’t have to go to Germany to visit a Christmas market! I am sure somewhere near you, you can find a Christmas market which you can visit with your family on a Sunday!
